At flatexDEGIRO, we're taking AI beyond isolated experiments and individual applications. Our ambition is to create a scalable, secure, and self-service AI environment where business and technology teams across the company can independently build, integrate, and use AI capabilities to solve real problems. As an AI Engineer, you will join our growing AI Hub to help make this vision a reality. You'll build production-ready AI applications, develop reusable platform components, and create the technical foundations that make AI accessible, reliable, and scalable across the organization. We're not looking for someone who simply knows how to experiment with AI. We're looking for a strong software engineer who knows how to build things that last. Our AI Hub is still evolving, you won't simply be stepping into an established engineering environment. You'll have the opportunity to help shape the shared AI Platform, influence engineering standards, and build capabilities that enable teams across the company to innovate independently.

This is what you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain production-grade AI applications using Python, modern software engineering practices, and reusable architectural patterns.

• Develop intelligent applications using LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), tool calling, and agentic AI, including orchestration, context management, and integration with external systems.

• Build APIs, connectors, and integration layers that connect AI capabilities with enterprise applications, business processes, and internal data sources.

• Design and implement retrieval solutions involving data ingestion, transformation, embeddings, vector databases, semantic search, and retrieval strategies.

• Develop secure and scalable data integration pipelines that make structured and unstructured enterprise data accessible to AI applications.

• Package, deploy, and operate AI services using Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines, ensuring consistent and reliable delivery across environments.

• Build automated testing, LLM evaluation, and regression testing frameworks to continuously assess and improve AI output quality, accuracy, and reliability.

• Implement monitoring and observability to track AI response quality, latency, performance, system behaviour, and operational stability.

• Take end-to-end technical ownership of AI solutions, from initial experimentation and development to production deployment, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.

• Develop reusable libraries, services, integration patterns, and engineering templates that contribute to the evolution of our shared AI Platform.

• Work closely with other AI engineers, product teams, architecture, infrastructure, and security colleagues to solve technical challenges and deliver practical solutions.

• Ensure AI applications meet enterprise standards for security, data protection, governance, and regulatory compliance, without introducing unnecessary complexity.

You'll bring us these skills

We're looking for someone who combines strong software engineering fundamentals with genuine curiosity about AI and a passion for building things that work in the real world. Technical expertise is essential, but ownership, creativity, and the ability to turn ideas into working solutions matter just as much.

• Strong hands-on Python software engineering experience, with a proven ability to design, develop, and maintain scalable, production-grade applications.

• Practical experience building applications with Generative AI, LLMs, and modern AI development frameworks, rather than only experimenting with AI tools.

• Experience with RAG architectures, retrieval strategies, embeddings, vector search, and integrating structured and unstructured data into AI applications.

• Familiarity with agentic AI, including tool calling, orchestration, context management, and integrations with external applications and services.

• Strong experience designing and developing APIs, backend services, and integrations in distributed software environments.

• Hands-on experience with Docker, CI/CD, automated deployment practices, and familiarity with Kubernetes or similar orchestration platforms.

• A solid understanding of software testing, debugging, monitoring, and observability, including the challenges of evaluating and testing non-deterministic AI systems.

• The ability to build secure, maintainable, and scalable software solutions while balancing engineering quality with speed and practical business needs.

• A builder's mindset. You enjoy writing code, experimenting with new technologies, solving complex problems, and turning promising ideas into working solutions.

• A natural sense of ownership and initiative. You look beyond predefined tasks, proactively identify opportunities for improvement, and take responsibility for the solutions you deliver.

• Curiosity about emerging AI technologies and the motivation to actively use AI in your own engineering work to improve productivity, automation, code quality, and delivery speed.

• Confidence to make technical decisions, challenge existing approaches, and work independently, even when requirements are not fully defined.

• A collaborative attitude, with the ability to share knowledge, communicate technical ideas clearly, and contribute to common engineering standards.
